Malina Large, Vintage Silk Kantha Quilt
£165.00
SOLD OUT
Malina - the front side a blend of midnight blue and violet tones, the reverse a blend of scarlet and tomato red, green and yellow. To see her is to love her.
A little wear & blemishes are perfectly normal due to the vintage nature of these quilts.
Size: 229 x 185 cm
Material: 100% upcycled vintage silk sari, hand-sewn together using a traditional kantha stitch and rows of complex regional stitching.
Our vintage kantha quilts are handcrafted from vintage textiles which have lived a full life before becoming a kantha quilt. Thus they may show imperfections, such as small threads or holes in the layers, colour inconsistency or small stains. They may show signs of wear, or have little patches here and there, which only adds to their character and charm. Our vintage kanthas are a handmade product, thus the pattern and stitching can be irregular.
The Maker: This quilt has been handcrafted by the women artisans of ‘The Centre for Development and Peace’, a fair trade non-profit in Meherpur which trains, employs and supports more than 250 women. The CPD empowers the most vulnerable and at-risk women and children; widows, victims of trafficking and sex workers. Find out more about their work here.
Love and Care: Our vintage kantha quilts are machine washable (and in fact get softer over more time & use).
Purchase with Purpose:
By purchasing a Kantha Karma quilt you are choosing to buy better. Our kantha respects people and the planet.
- Your purchase enables us to continue to directly support the livelihood of our women artisans.
- Allows upcycled textiles to live a second life, saving them from ending up in landfill. The use of upcycled, vintage and dead stock materials is the foundation for all of our kantha, which means no new dyes or inks, no chemical treatment, less energy, less water and no by-products of production.
