At the core of everything we do at Kantha Karma is a strong respect for the people we work with, and the environment we work within, Mother Nature.
Nature is at the heart of everything we do. All of our kantha has been carefully handcrafted with Mother Earth in mind.
MADE SUSTAINABLY
At Kantha Karma we hate waste! We recognise the damaging effect that the clothing and textiles industry has on our planet. We value the environment and promote sustainable practices through our choice of materials and supply chain.
Our textiles require no chemical treatment, less energy, less water, and no pesticides or fertilizers to grow, ensuring that our production is eco-friendly and reducing our carbon imprint.
We use 100% upcycled fabrics to produce our vintage kantha.
ORGANIC COTTON
Our natural cotton and indigo blankets are made with upcycled sari inner layers and two outer layers of biodegradable, organic cotton.
Why organic cotton? Organic cotton farming eliminates the use of manufactured fertilisers and pesticides and produces up to 94% less greenhouse gas emissions. Organic cotton farming also keeps waterways and drinking water safe and clean. The water pollution impact of organic has been shown to be 98% less than non-organic cotton production.
HANDMADE
We are proud to be part of the slow fashion movement; a movement that stands against fast fashion and is defined by the use of eco-conscious materials as well as a slow process taken to design, source, and produce textiles... textiles that will last a lifetime. We believe the people, skills and heritage behind each product are just as beautiful as the product itself.
Kantha cannot be mass-produced and the small irregularities in the stitching and cloth are a reminder that each piece has been handmade and is one of a kind. Each item is hand-crafted by our artisans; which means that each piece is as unique as you. Our kantha is our art and craft and each and every garment is infused with the love of the hands that created it.
CLIMATE FRIENDLY
At Kantha Karma we care about our use of resources and energy. Our HQ is based on a narrowboat, utilising electricity sourced from solar power and carrying our own water supply. Living onboard, we are constantly reminded of our limited supplies of water, fuel, and gas and so use them sparingly and consciously.
We recycle and compost organic wastes and recycle or donate our textile scraps whenever possible. Zero waste is our goal.
100% VEGAN AND CRUELTY FREE
As passionate vegans, we only use cruelty free resources.
We are now 100% vegan, having recently phased out our reclaimed silk line.
Animals are an essential and beautiful aspect of our ecosystem, each playing a unique role to ensure that our planet is habitable. As such, any threat to wildlife and other animals' safety should be a concern to us all.
NO PLASTIC
We’re now plastic-free in all aspects of our packaging. We package all of our kantha in recycled tissuerecycled paper bags compostable bags that are made from plants and will biodegrade in your garden compost.
All Kantha Karma branding is compostable - natural embroidered cotton labels, recycled paper swing tags connected by natural jute twine and a metal pin. No plastic!
