Dhruvia Kantha Quilt

£90.00
SOLD OUT

'Dhruvia', a beautifully repurposed sari kantha quilt throw.

This gorgeous repurposed sari quilt commands all the attention. The vibrant red tones on this kantha throw are brought to life with bright yellow and purple kantha stitching and antique gold hints. The reverse is a lovely floral print. Sari edges have a bold brown border with contrasting hues of yellow and red. Dhruvia is a true autumnal quilt, which has been freehand stitched by female artisans from a village in West Bengal.

Vintage kantha are unique finds, not to be stumbled across again.

This one-of-a-kind kantha quilt has been handcrafted from 5 layers of recycled cotton saris. 'Dhruvi' has been freehand stitched by the female artisans of The Centre for Development and Peace’, a fair trade non-profit in Meherpur, Bangladesh.

❃ Size: 156cm x 97cm
❃ Material: 100% upcycled vintage cotton sari, hand-sewn together using a traditional kantha stitch and rows of complex regional stitching.
❃ Love and Care: Our vintage kantha quilts are machine washable (and in fact get softer over more time & use).
❃ The Maker: This quilt has been handmade by the women artisans of ‘The Centre for Development and Peace’, a fair trade non-profit in Meherpur which trains, employs and supports more than 250 women. The CPD empowers the most vulnerable and at-risk women and children; widows, victims of trafficking and sex workers.

Our vintage kantha quilts are handcrafted from vintage textiles which have lived a full life before becoming a kantha quilt. Thus they may show imperfections, such as small threads or holes in the layers, colour inconsistency or small stains. They may show signs of wear, or have little patches here and there, which only adds to their character and charm. Our vintage kanthas are a handmade product, thus the pattern and stitching can be irregular.
