Edom Silk Kantha Throw
'Edom' - a beautifully repurposed sari kantha quilt throw, handcrafted from upcycled silk and cotton saree fabric.
A gorgeous autumnal throw, with luminescent bronze silk on one side and a deep green and brown botanical pattern on the reverse. This kantha throw is a show stopper. Finished with fine kantha stitches in blue, yellow and white.
This one-of-a-kind kantha quilt has been handcrafted from 6 layers of vintage silk and cotton sarees. 'Edom' has been freehand stitched by the female artisans of Basha, a fair trade social enterprise in Bangladesh that helps survivors of sex trafficking and women at risk rebuild their lives. Through the creation of these beautiful and unique items, the artisans are now employed in work that brings dignity, livelihood and a brighter future.
❃ Size: 200cm x 100cm
❃ Material: 100% upcycled vintage silk and cotton saree, hand-sewn together using a traditional kantha stitch. The cloth used in our kanthas is re-purposed, which means no new dyes or inks, no by-products of production; the only factory-produced supplies we use are thread.
❃ Love and Care: We recommend that our vintage silk kantha quilts are dry cleaned.
❃ Each kantha is one-of-a-kind with it’s own unique variations and each one features the hand-stitched name of the woman who made it. This quilt was handmade by Jahanara.
❃ The Maker: This quilt has been handmade by the women artisans of ‘Basha’, a fair trade social enterprise in Bangladesh, which helps survivors of sex trafficking and women at risk rebuild their lives. Through the creation of these beautiful and unique items, the artisans are now employed in work that brings dignity, livelihood and a brighter future.
Our vintage kantha quilts are handcrafted from vintage textiles which have lived a full life before becoming a kantha quilt. Thus they may show small imperfections, such as small threads, colour inconsistency or small stains. They may show signs of wear, or have little patches here and there, which only adds to their character and charm. Our vintage kanthas are a handmade product, thus the pattern and stitching can be irregular.
